Jonathan Brownson Installed as Senior Pastor at New Community

On Sunday, January 8, 2012, Jonathan Brownson was installed as Senior Pastor of New Community Fourth Reformed Church, located at the corner of 15th and Washington.  The Church was filled with members, friends, and well-wishers from across the city to witness this important ceremony.  In November of last year, the congregation of New Community voted overwhelmingly to extend an invitation to Jonathan to accept a permanent position as Senior Pastor.  Today’s installation ceremony was the fulfillment of that invitation.

It was fitting that Caleb Schut and Charlie Walter were the worship team, leading the congregation in songs of praise and celebration.  Just two months after Jonathan and Jeannette’s arrival at New Community, Caleb and Charlie, young Hope College students, arrived at the Church.  They were just the start of many Hope students associated with the Church in the past few years.

Jonathan’s sermon emphasized the diversity in both the Westcore Neighborhood and New Community Church, calling upon individuals from varied backgrounds to share a few words, say a prayer in their native tongue, or sing a song.  Among the languages heard at the service were Korean, Arabic, Dutch, French, German, and Spanish.

From a short-term one-year, temporary position with the Church 4 years ago, Jonathan and Jeannette’s love of both the Westcore Neighborhood and its residents led to today’s long-term commitment.

A big round of applause and a giant Thank You go out to Jonathan and Jeannette for their continued love and devotion to our neighborhood!
