Family Movie Night

Over 70 Westcore residents turned out Friday night for our neighborhood’s first free Family Movie Night.  Folks ranging in age from 7 months to 70 years sat together to watch Mr. Popper’s Penguins.

Raul and a group of volunteers including Tabitha, Irma, Olivia, Phil and JoJo transformed the Fellowship Hall at Maple Avenue Ministries into a movie theater.  Raul and his team worked all afternoon to make the hall look like a theater.  Rows of chairs were neatly lined up.  Rope lighting ran up and down the aisles so people could find their way in the dark.

Thanks to MAM, there were plenty of concessions available:  cookies, candy, and freshly popped bags of popcorn—all for a quarter!  The movie started late because the concession lines were jammed.

With the success of this first Movie Night, it is hoped to become a monthly event during the winter.

  1. Looks like you all had a great turn out. Sorry we couldn’t make it but all three of us got sick this week with terrible colds. Hopefully we will make the next one. Zachary was so excited about going. Thanks for sharing this event with the neighbors.
